About

What does creative art have to do with helping me feel better?

When upset, anxious, or agitated, you may find yourself naturally pulled toward making doodles on a notebook or playing music that fits your mood. These actions we naturally take to are of no coincidence. It’s our mind’s and body’s way of letting us know we need a break.

If we do not take this opportunity to ‘Zen out’ through the arts, we may just break down. Art therapy is a space where the need to ‘Zen out’ is not overlooked – but rather explored.

Creative arts therapy is an opportunity for our mind and body to be reintroduced into the arts in a way that is non-threatening, supportive, and open to all types of artists as well as non-identifying artists.

Yes, it’s true, no art experience is necessary to engage in art therapy!

Artist or non-identifying artist, creative arts therapy is available to all who are seeking an alternative approach to traditional talk therapy, one which embraces the benefits of what a moment of ‘Zenning out’ may provide to us.

These moments of connection to our breath and body while making artwork allow for calming and relaxing sensations to spread throughout our nervous system. When we can tap into these sensations and allow them to flow, processing anxiety, depression and day-to-day challenges can be better understood.

Together we use art to help us express what is often too difficult to verbalize. Together we use art to help us visualize the steps we may need to take to move forward.

When talking is not enough…

Creative self-expression is a process which explores different art mediums to access feelings we have a difficult time connecting to. You will be guided and led on how to use art materials if you are unfamiliar with them or offered ways to engage with materials in a way that feels right for you.

This is not an art class, so you can leave behind any residual fear educational art classes have instilled within you!

We are together in the therapy space, creating artwork and processing emotions either verbally or nonverbally. That is the beauty of creative arts therapy, when words are not enough, we make art.

About Me

Creative self expression is a process which explores different art mediums to access feelings we have a difficult time connecting to.  You will be guided and led as to how to use art materials if you are unfamiliar with them or offered ways to engage with materials in a way that feels right for you.  This is not an art class, so you can leave behind any worry or fear, showing up is enough! There is no right or wrong way to be creative or to make art. Art can feel ugly, look ugly, feel beautiful, look beautiful, or just be as it is. We are in the therapy space together, creating artwork and processing emotions either verbally or nonverbally. That is the beauty of creative arts therapy, when words are not enough, we make art.

Even your therapist has struggled.

With a passion for perinatal and postpartum therapeutic work, I find that a mother's mental health and support is the most necessary when bringing new life into the world. The support groups and individual services I offer are ongoing and look to address birth experiences, traumatic birth stories, NICU moms, and those struggling with PPA/PPD. As a mother of twin toddlers who has made it through a NICU experience and suffered from PPD/PPA, I aim to provide a safe space for mothers to process their feelings with the use of art making, somatic techniques rooted in body awareness, mindfulness & EMDR.  I graduated with my masters in Art Therapy from the School of Visual Arts and hold an art therapy license in New York State, LCAT, a board certified as an art therapist, ATR-BC, and a 400hr certificate as a registered yoga instructor, RYT. I am trained in EMDR and mindfulness techniques which are interwoven within my therapeutic approach.

Aside from providing therapy, my family and I love living near the ocean to soak in the lifestyle
and play on the beach. If I could bottle the smell of a charcoal grill paired with a warm summer
breeze, I would!
