EMDR

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a type of therapy that uses eye movements and tapping techniques to heal by transforming people’s emotional distress due to upsetting life events.

Just as if you were to cut your hand and a scab forms to naturally heal, with EMDR the mind can also heal from traumatic experiences. The mind’s wound, or trauma, creates an imbalance and blockages. Once removed, healing continues.

When EMDR is utilized, clinicians help their clients activate their blockages which cause emotional suffering and find a natural processing for healing to resume. Studies have shown that people who utilize EMDR therapy receive the benefits of therapy, which at one point took years for them to feel a change.

Why is EMDR so effective?

What I love about EMDR is the many ways it can be used in sessions with the client as well as outside of sessions. To have accessible tools available when painful thoughts show up is incredibly helpful to get through the day, week, month, and year.

Hearing clients report its benefits allows the work to speak for itself. You can find me including EMDR into creative arts therapy sessions which provides clients with more opportunities to process emotions and regulate emotions that were once too much to hold onto.
